Michael S. Vrana, M.D.

Dr. Michael S. Vrana is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who has cared for patients in New Braunfels and South Central Texas since 2012.

Dr. Vrana specializes in sports medicine and provides comprehensive general orthopedic care, with a particular focus on shoulder, hip, and knee conditions. He treats joint pain, sports injuries, ligament and tendon injuries, fractures, and other musculoskeletal conditions. His surgical practice includes arthroscopy, ligament repair and reconstruction, and shoulder, hip, and knee replacement.

Before becoming an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Vrana practiced for eight years as a licensed physical therapist. He later returned to school to pursue medicine and specialize in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Vrana earned his undergraduate degree in physical therapy, summa cum laude, from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Charles A. Rockwood Jr. Outstanding Student Award in Orthopedics.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at University Hospital in San Antonio, where he received the Best Resident Teaching Award. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship with Dr. Jesse DeLee. His subspecialty training also included joint replacement with Dr. John Evans, foot and ankle surgery with Dr. Mark Casillas, and shoulder and knee surgery with Dr. Phil Jacobs and Dr. Brad Tolin.

A native of Shiner, Texas, Dr. Vrana and his wife have two sons. Outside of clinic and the operating room, he enjoys hunting, bowling, and spending time outdoors with his family.
