Physician Assistant
Clinic evaluation, injections and casting, surgical first-assist, and post-op care alongside Dr. Vrana.
Ben Swanner works alongside Dr. Vrana across the full continuum of orthopedic care, extending Dr. Vrana's reach so patients receive timely, attentive care at every stage of their treatment. In clinic, Ben independently evaluates new and established patients, performs focused musculoskeletal exams, orders and interprets imaging, and formulates treatment plans in coordination with Dr. Vrana. He performs joint and soft-tissue injections, including corticosteroid and viscosupplementation injections for the knee, shoulder, and other joints, manages fracture care, applies casts and splints, and sees many of the practice's acute injury and follow-up visits, which keeps surgical consultations open for the patients who need them.
In the operating room, Ben first assists Dr. Vrana during surgical cases, handling exposure, retraction, and closure and working as a true second set of hands throughout the procedure. That continuity carries into recovery: Ben leads most post-operative visits, monitors healing and wound status, manages pain and activity progression, coordinates physical therapy, and identifies early signs of complications before they become problems. For patients, it means the person assisting Dr. Vrana during surgery is the same person guiding their recovery.
Ben earned his Bachelor's in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University in 2022 and his Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from South University's Austin campus in 2025. He is board certified by the NCCPA and licensed by the Texas Medical Board.
Originally from Dallas and a graduate of Lake Highlands High School, Ben found his calling in orthopedics, a field that blends his love of sports with his passion for helping others heal and thrive. His interest in medicine took root early; his mother has spent her career as a nurse. Ben lives in the area with his wife Elaina and their dog Maverick. Outside the clinic, he is usually hiking, traveling, on the basketball court, or out on the golf course.
